Official TANAPA rates

Serengeti National Park entry fees

TANAPA's tariff sheet prices every fee before 18% VAT, and the gate adds it: the $70 conservation fee is $82.60 per adult per 24 hours from 16 May to 14 March, and $70.80 in the long-rains low season.

If you only want the answer

A non-East African adult pays $70 plus 18% VAT, so $82.60 per 24 hours, from 16 May to 14 March, and $70.80 from 15 March to 15 May, unchanged since at least 2021. A foreign-registered vehicle up to 2,000 kg adds $47.20 a day, a public campsite $35.40 per adult, and a lodge inside the park a concession fee of $70.80 (July to September) or $59 per adult per night. Gates take card or mobile money, not cash.

Conservation fee (per person, per 24 hours)

Non-East African adult, 16+, 16 May to 14 March $70 $82.60 incl. 18% VAT
Non-East African adult, 16+, 15 March to 15 May $60 $70.80 incl. VAT (long-rains low season)
Non-East African child, 5–15 $20 $23.60 incl. VAT, all year
Child under 5 Free
Expatriate / TZ resident, 16+ $35 $30 from 15 March to 15 May; child 5–15: $10
East African citizen, 16+ TSh 10,000 child 5–15: TSh 2,000. TZ, KE, UG, BI, RW, SS, DRC

The Serengeti shares the top wildlife-park tier with Nyerere. A sleep-over permit runs 24 hours and a day permit 12 daylight hours, both with multiple entries. The low season for this fee is only 15 March to 15 May; the October to June low season on this page applies to concession and special-campsite fees, not to entry.

Seen $82.50, a $30 vehicle fee or 'VAT included'? Here is what TANAPA charges.

A widely copied 2026 article says TANAPA raised the Serengeti fee to $82.50 in July 2025, a 37.5% rise from $60. There was no rise. The Serengeti has charged $70 plus VAT from 16 May to 14 March and $60 plus VAT from 15 March to 15 May in the 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24 tariffs, and TANAPA's own data for 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 still prices the adult fee at TSh 178,850, which is $70 at its rate of TSh 2,555. The same article's $30 vehicle fee is also wrong: a foreign-registered car up to 2,000 kg pays $40 plus VAT.

TANAPA's tariff web page says all fees include 18% VAT, while its tariff sheet says every charge is VAT-exclusive. The sheet is right: the gate charges $82.60 for the $70 fee. Two more mix-ups: the $50 low season for lodge concession fees runs October to June, but the cheaper entry fee applies only from 15 March to 15 May; and residents pay half the entry fee but the full concession fee.

The Ngorongoro 'transit fee' that operator pages mention is the ordinary NCAA entry permit, $70.80, and it is valid for one entry only, so a road safari pays it twice.

The TANAPA tariff sheet we use ↗

Vehicle entry (per vehicle, per 24 hours)

Up to 2,000 kg. Foreign registered $40 $47.20 incl. VAT. Tanzanian-registered: TSh 20,000
2,001–3,000 kg. Foreign registered $150 $177 incl. VAT. Tanzanian-registered: TSh 35,000
3,001–7,000 kg. Foreign registered $200 Tanzanian-registered: TSh 60,000
7,001–10,000 kg. Foreign registered $300 Tanzanian-registered: TSh 150,000
Open vehicle surcharge +50% up to 2,000 kg foreign: $60 before VAT

The weight band is the tare weight on the registration card, and a stretched safari Land Cruiser often sits above 2,000 kg. Kenyan and other East African private vehicles may not be used for tourism business in the park. TANAPA's 2026/27 data also carries a $10 'Gol Kopjes vehicle entry' line; TANAPA does not say what it covers.

Camping, concession & TANAPA accommodation (per person, per night)

Hotel concession fee (any lodge or camp inside the park), 16+ $60 / $50 July–Sept / Oct–June: $70.80 / $59 incl. VAT; child 5–15: $10. Residents pay the full rate
Public campsite, 16+ $30 $35.40 incl. VAT; child 5–15: $5. No booking needed
Special campsite, 16+ $60 / $50 July–Sept / Oct–June; book ahead
Seasonal campsite, 16+ $60 / $50 July–Sept / Oct–June; allocated to operators' mobile camps
Fly campsite, 16+ $50 child 5–15: $10; book ahead
Premium special campsite, 16+ $300 2023/24 tariff sheet; not in TANAPA's 2026/27 Serengeti data
Seronera rest house, per head $30 $35.40 incl. VAT; book ahead
Hostel (organised groups only) $10 book ahead

Campers pay the conservation fee as well: a non-East African adult on a public campsite pays $82.60 + $35.40 = $118 a night in TANAPA fees before the vehicle. Lodges usually add the concession fee to the bill rather than folding it into their rate.

Something this page does not answer?

Fees are the one thing park authorities change without telling anyone, and some of them publish nothing at all.

Ask us. We answer questions about the park itself, and we can usually tell you which camps work on one route and who to write to. If what you want is a trip someone else arranges, we will say so and hand you to an operator we know, and we earn a commission if that becomes a booking.

Nothing on this site sits behind the form. Every figure we have is already on the page.
